The word 'Guru' is derived from the two Sanskrit words ‘gu’+’ru’. 'Gu' means ignorance or darkness, and 'ru' means the removal of darkness. A Guru is called so as he/she is called to expel the darkness from the lives of their pupils and teach them the right path of life- leading them to light.
