Kohinoor International School (KIS) is the 1st Chinmaya Vision School of Mumbai as it introduces the Chinmaya Vision Programme, an initiative of the Chinmaya Education ovement from academic year 2025-26. The Chinmaya Vision Programme is what makes the hinmaya Education Institutions Schools with a Difference. It concretises Pujya Gurudev Swami Chinmayanandajis vision of education.
Objective & Gurudev’s Vision – In Gurudev’s words, in the letter written for the inauguration of Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Kollengode in 1965: “Children are the very cream of our generation and they are the rulers and makers of tomorrow. Upon them depends the future of our nation and the safety of our culture and tradition. Let us give them a healthy physical and mental atmosphere to grow, ingrain in them respect for life, love for living creatures, team spirit, national fervor and pride in our haloed Indian culture. I am sure that such schools will grow everywhere through the country under the benign patronage and service of our Mission branches. They should never be run for profit at any time. We shall use all income to pay the teachers well, expand the infrastructure and enrich education.””
Chinmaya Vidyalayas are called SWAD schools, Schools With A Difference. The differentiating element is the Chinmaya Vision Program. The emphasis of the program is to provide individuals with the right vision of life. “As the vision, so the creation”..”
With Gurudev’s ‘vision of education’, the Chinmaya Vision Program aims to lead all those involved in education from where they stand today to reach and revel in his ‘vision of life’ – a vision that helps children to evolve into men and women of outstanding and lasting character and achievement. -- Schools that are not part of Chinmaya Mission are also affiliated with the CCMT Education Cell only to implement the Chinmaya Vision program by becoming a ‘Vision School’..
This body governs all Chinmaya Vidyalayas. Established in 1996, it is composed of educators and mission members who provide guidance to all associated educational institutions.
The vision statement for the vidyalayas: “Knowledge, Service and Efficiency” The vision Statement for the Education cell: “True knowledge removes all that is false in our lives.”.
CVP CVP is a Value Based Education Program. It identifies the inculcation of values and character formation as the ultimate purpose of education. Accordingly, CVP focuses in child development on seven aspects, viz., physical development, mental development, intellectual development, spiritual development, Indian culture, patriotism and universal outlook. Such emphasis in education leads to holistic development of children. Thus Chinmaya Vision Program aims to make the Chinmaya Vidyalayas true ‘ Vidyalayas’ or temples of learning. Here, the best of modern education is given in the exalted, sacred spirit of the ‘Gurukula’ tradition. This will create Indians who will fit perfectly into and contribute much to today’s society.
CVP is not just theoretical; not an idealistic vision but it is a concrete and proven programme with practical implementation strategies followed by all the Chinmaya Education Institutions. CVP is value education plus value based education. It is not time bound but an ongoing attitude based program. CVP integrates all into a harmonious whole.
CVP is not an activity but a vision-inducing programme the very spirit behind all activities in the Vidyalaya. It is not a value add, but the Vidyalaya culture. It is not portion-based, but attitude-based. CVP is Value Education and Value-based Education.
It aims at the overall unfoldment and gentle blossoming of the student at the physical, mental, intellectual and spiritual levels of his/her personality.
Culture is more than just art forms, festivals and rituals. Culture is the very way of life of a race and its thinking, which makes it unique and special. Under this head, the student is given a wide exposure to the various aspects of our culture, cultural awareness and appreciation of the vast literary, artistic and scientific heritage of India, explanations of customs and traditions, symbolism, celebration of festivals and cultural motivation through hobbies and projects..
This vital area of focus includes education in citizenship, civic consciousness, fostering pride in being Indian and vital national concerns such as unity in diversity and correct understanding of secularism. It aims at creating dedicated and committed citizens who take real pride in serving the nation..
Universal Outlook creates an appreciation, sensitivity and commitment to universal issues like global warming, population and poverty. After years of mindless pillage of nature, the world needs to come back to a universal holistic view of life. A universal outlook helps the student view himself/herself as a responsible citizen of world, live in harmony with creation (environmental education and the synthesis between science and religion) as well as become aware of being an intrinsic part of the macrocosm. It connects man to man and man to the universal force behind creation.
Chinmaya Vision Programme augments the role of teachers, parents and the management in this ennobling endeavour. The teacher is guided into this programme with the help of the CVP Manual, seminars and newsletters. Teachers assessment scales enable him/her to assess self-worth and effectiveness. The parent is gently drawn into the programme through Manuals, parenting workshops, student assessment, self-assessment and expert advice. The school management through its active participation significantly helps this programme which aims at all-round man-making education and not just academics at the cost of other aspects of a students development.
